Where to Stay in Napa Valley: The Best Hotels for a Wine Country Escape
Last Updated on March 2, 2026 by Lauren Belzer Sanford
Napa Valley has become like a third home to me over the years, outside of Orange County, and where I grew up in Southwest Washington. Because my in-laws are local to the valley, we always have somewhere to stay on our visits, but we’ve stopped in to quite a few hotels between our Napa wine tasting adventures; whether it be for what I like to call “hotel window shopping” (just perusing), a drink at the bar, or dinner at their restaurant(s).
Even though we don’t have to book hotels when we visit Napa, I can’t help but pay close attention to the ones that make the valley feel even more magical. You start to notice which properties have that effortless luxury, who does food and wine best, and which spots are worth the splurge for a special trip. Consider this my curated list of the places that consistently stand out to me — the hotels I’d book in a heartbeat if we weren’t already staying with family.
Alila Napa Valley
An absolute gem tucked against the vineyards in St. Helena, Alila Napa Valley is one of those hotels that instantly slows your pulse the moment you arrive. The design is serene and updated — all clean lines, soft neutrals, and floor-to-ceiling views — but still rooted in the warmth and texture of California wine country. It’s the kind of place where mornings start quietly on your private terrace and afternoons drift into spa time, local wines, and golden-hour walks by the vines.
When staying here, you’re not far from well-known wineries like Beringer Vineyards or from St. Helena’s iconic burger joint, Gott’s Roadside. Bonus for points lovers: Alila properties are part of the Hyatt family and participate in World of Hyatt, so you can earn and redeem points (and enjoy perks) while staying somewhere that feels effortlessly luxurious.
Auberge du Soleil
Shocker, an Auberge property made the list (well, two, if you scroll down). True Napa Valley luxury, Auberge du Soleil is pure romance tucked into the hills of Rutherford. With its South of France-inspired design, sun-soaked terraces, and incredible views over endless vineyards, it feels like a serene escape to Europe without ever having to leave the U.S. The rooms and suites are elegant, the spa is legendary (according to friends and family — I’ve never been), and the on-site dining is some of the best in the valley.
It’s an Auberge Resorts Collection property (of course), which means a sense of warm, understated luxury and an attention to detail that makes every stay feel special.
There’s a lot not too far from the property, but some wineries worth mentioning are Round Pond Estate, Honig Vineyard & Winery, and St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery (I love their grounds…it’s so beautiful). Not a winery or “restaurant” per se, but Oakville Grocery is a wine country must (never thought an obsession with $13 mustard would find me, but it did, and I buy it every time I visit).
Carneros Resort and Spa
Situated at the southern gateway to Napa Valley, Carneros Resort and Spa feels like a luxurious little village of its own. The private cottages make it one of the most spacious and privacy-focused stays in the valley. And while we’ve visited FARM Restaurant + Bar, their on-site restaurant, countless times for drinks, brunch/lunch, and dinner, the best part is wandering the surrounding grounds before (or afterward) — the gardens, the twinkle lights, even the resident chickens all add to the charm.
With on-site dining options, a beautiful hilltop pool, and those signature sunsets, it’s an effortless blend of rustic, modern, and completely magical.
Nearby wine tasting includes names like Domaine Carneros – the French-style château of sparkling wine — and Cuvaison Winery. For food, FARM and Boon Fly Café are on-site, and the Oxbow Public Market (and Downtown Napa) is only about a 10-minute drive.
The Estate Yountville
Right in the heart of my favorite little town in the Napa Valley, The Estate Yountville offers a resort-style escape with all the ease of being walking distance away from some of the valley’s best restaurants and tasting rooms. The property is like a Mediterranean-inspired oasis — olive trees, pools, sunny courtyards — with rooms and suites that balance laid-back California warmth with modern, boutique-level luxury. It’s the kind of place where you park the car once and spend the rest of your trip strolling to dinner, grabbing pastries at Bouchon Bakery, and feeling like you’re living in your own little wine country village. If you visit during the holiday season, it kind of feels like you’re walking through a Hallmark Movie set (but that could just be me).
Because you’re in the heart of little Yountville, there’s a lot right at your fingertips. Nearby tasting rooms include Priest Ranch, Handwritten Wines, JCB Tasting Salon, RH Yountville Wine Vault, and more. And there are plenty of dining options to explore, like the world-renowned, ultra-luxurious The French Laundry (if you’re lucky) and Bottega Napa Valley (where Max and I celebrated our engagement with our families), to name just a couple.
Le Petit Pali St. Helena
Opened in September 2025, Le Petit Pali St. Helena brings a fresh, design-forward charm to one of Napa Valley’s most beloved towns with only 24 rooms and 5 standalone guest cottages. The vibe is intimate and stylish — think curated vintage accents, crisp bedding, thoughtful amenities, and that signature Palisociety warmth that feels both elevated and approachable. Perfectly located within walking distance of St. Helena’s shops, bakeries, and tasting rooms, it’s an ideal home base for slow mornings, wine-filled afternoons, and easy evening strolls through town.
Le Petit Pali is located not far from some icons and favorites: Brasswood Estate (tasting room, bakery, and restaurant), HALL Wines St. Helena, and Orin Swift Cellars.
North Block Hotel
We’ve walked by and popped into North Block Hotel more than once on our Yountville strolls, and every time, I’m convinced it’s one of the valley’s coziest, most charming little hideaways. Tucked at the north end of town, it has this Mediterranean-meets-California feel — olive trees and glowing fireplaces — that instantly makes you want to stop in and stay awhile. The rooms look warm and thoughtfully designed, the courtyard is pure ambiance, and the whole place feels intimate in that elevated, effortlessly cool way Yountville does best. It’s definitely on my mental list.
North Block is close to all the same Yountville spots as The Estate Yountville, but also closest to R+D Kitchen, a classic American comfort that’s always solid (I love me a Hillstone restaurant), and Ciccio (a local Italian favorite).
Stanly Ranch, Auberge Collection
Stanly Ranch is one of Napa’s most modern, design-forward spots, and to this day, one of the coolest places I’ve had the privilege of staying. It’s a full-on wellness-meets-wine-country escape on acres upon acres of vineyards and open land at the southern edge of the valley. The resort feels intimate yet expansive at the same time, with stunning standalone cottages, private outdoor fire pits, and floor-to-ceiling windows that, to me, make everything feel a little bit more dramatic (in a good way).
We’ve wandered the property on countless family walks and celebrated holidays over dinner at Bear, their incredible on-site restaurant, but Stanly Ranch also holds one of our most special memories: Max and I stayed here the night we got engaged in December 2023. It was a simple little celebration, but a moment for just the two of us before rejoining our families for a weekend of festivities — and it made the whole place feel even more magical to us. With that unmistakable Auberge touch, it’s a modern Napa dream!
Stanly Ranch is not far from Carneros Resort and Spa, Domaine Carneros, and Cuvaison Winery. It’s also a quick drive to downtown Napa!
White House Napa
White House Napa is a charming, boutique bed-and-breakfast-style hotel just a few blocks from downtown that we’ve passed by numerous times. Housed in a beautifully restored Victorian mansion, it blends character with a fresh, light, design-forward interior — think art, crisp whites, and curated pops of color. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, with a courtyard pool, inviting common spaces, and the kind of relaxed luxury that makes Napa feel approachable and elevated all at the same time.
White House Napa is perfect for those who want a beautiful stay without the formality of a resort, and who love being close to Napa’s downtown tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants.
Having spent a good amount of time in Napa over the years — from casual “hotel window shopping” to holidays, birthdays, and even our engagement — these are the properties that have truly stood out to me. They’re beautiful, thoughtful, and each offers something unique depending on the kind of wine country escape you’re dreaming up. Wherever you decide to stay, Napa has a way of slowing you down, filling your days with good wine, and leaving you already planning your next visit!
