When I think of Los Cabos, I think of palm trees, sunshine, heat, and hospitality. Having visited a few times — staying in both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo — I can genuinely say that this stretch of the Baja Peninsula is home to some of the best luxury resorts in western North America.
The properties in this guide all made the list for a reason: they each have a distinct sense of place, exceptional service, and that quality that’s harder to define but instantly recognizable when you arrive — the feeling that someone thought carefully about every detail. Some I’ve experienced firsthand; others have been on my radar for years, talked about by people whose taste I trust. All of them represent Cabo luxury at its best.
There is no shortage of stunning resorts to choose from down on the Baja Peninsula, but if you’re narrowing your list — whether you’re planning a honeymoon, a milestone birthday, or simply a trip worth remembering — these are the ones I’d start with. And if you’re still deciding between the two sides of Los Cabos, read on — I’ve got a quick breakdown of that below, too.
Cabo San Lucas vs. San José del Cabo: A Quick Look
If you’re new to Los Cabos, it helps to understand that “Cabo” actually refers to two distinct towns connected by a 20-mile stretch called the “Tourist Corridor” — and they have very different personalities.
Cabo San Lucas is the livelier of the two: think beach clubs, marina nightlife, the iconic Arch, and an energy that lends itself to college sprink break trips, group vacations, bachelorette weekends, and anyone who wants their vacation to feel a little celebratory. The luxury resorts here tend to be larger and more resort-forward, with a buzzy atmosphere that’s part of the appeal.
San José del Cabo is quieter and more refined — cobblestone streets, art galleries, farm-to-table restaurants, and a pace that feels closer to an escape. The resorts on this side tend to attract honeymooners, anniversary travelers, and those who want their vacation to feel unhurried.
For most of the luxury properties on this list, both sides deliver beautifully. I’ve noted which town each resort is in so you can plan accordingly — and for a broader look at where to stay across both areas, my full Where to Stay in Los Cabos guide is a good companion read.
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Collection – Cabo San Lucas
If “modern Baja luxury” were a place, it would be Chileno Bay. This iconic Auberge property blends barefoot elegance with a fun, contemporary energy — think airy suites, stunning pools, and one of Cabo’s most swimmable beaches right at your doorstep.
Whether you’re unwinding in an oceanfront room, grabbing a mezcal cocktail poolside, or setting sail for a golden-hour cruise, Chileno Bay nails that easy, breezy, sun-drenched vacation feel. And if you’re traveling as a couple? It’s one of Cabo’s most romantic spots.
Why it belongs on your bucket list: Because it’s the rare combo of swimmable beach + Auberge-level luxury — perfect for anyone craving both outdoor time and poolside relaxation.
Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection – Cabo San Lucas
Esperanza is pure romance — an intimate cliffside escape with cascading infinity pools, dramatic ocean views, and that signature Auberge warmth in every detail. This is the kind of place where you wake up to the sound of waves crashing into the rocks below and fall asleep under a sky full of stars.
The architecture blends natural textures with airy, coastal design, creating an atmosphere that feels peaceful, refined, and deeply restorative. Add in world-class dining, a serene spa, and private terraces, and it truly becomes a bucket-list stay.
Why it belongs on your bucket list: For the dramatic cliffside setting, five-star service, and timeless romance — ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries, or just spoiling yourself.
One&Only Palmilla – San José del Cabo
One&Only Palmilla is legendary, and for good reason. It’s one of the most iconic luxury resorts in Mexico, with lush gardens, quiet pathways, swimmable beaches, and suites that make you feel like royalty.
The service here is next-level (hello, butlers), and the property itself is intimate yet expansive. From private plunge pools to pristine golf courses and award-winning restaurants, Palmilla is a destination for travelers who want classic, old-world luxury with modern comforts.
Why it belongs on your bucket list: Because few resorts do timeless luxury like One&Only. If you want to feel taken care of in every possible way, this is your place.
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal – Cabo San Lucas
If dramatic entrances are your thing, Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is for you — you literally drive through a private tunnel carved into a mountain to reach the resort. Once inside, it’s all neutral stone, stunning cliffside views, and private plunge pools in nearly every room.
Pedregal embodies true Cabo luxury: warm, thoughtful service; incredible dining (El Farallón is truly bucket-list worthy); and endless ocean views where whales often make an appearance. It’s peaceful, exclusive, and truly unforgettable.
Why it belongs on your bucket list: For that mix of privacy, cliffside beauty, and a jaw-dropping entrance you can’t find anywhere else in Cabo.
Viceroy Los Cabos – San José del Cabo
Viceroy Los Cabos feels like stepping into a modern art installation — reflective pools and water all over, minimalist white architecture, and geometric lines everywhere you look. It’s sleek, cinematic, and incredibly photogenic.
Max and I stayed here in July 2024 for my best friend’s destination wedding, and it was such a lovely experience from start to finish. If you love simple, modern design that’s still uber-luxurious, this hotel is right up your alley. Between the sunset views, the property’s energy, and the architecture that makes every angle look like a magazine cover, it quickly became one of my favorite contemporary resorts in Cabo (and that’s coming from someone drawn to old-world, eclectic design).
Even though it’s more lively and design-forward than some of the quieter, more traditional properties, it still offers great service (an on-call butler), spacious rooms, and a prime beachfront location. If you love modern design, chic vibes, and still enjoy that resort energy, Viceroy is absolutely the spot.

Why it belongs on your bucket list: It’s visually stunning (I can still appreciate the architecture even if it’s not “my style”), endlessly modern, and perfect for a luxury getaway — wedding weekends, girls’ trips, birthday weekends, or a trendy couples escape.
Cabo knows how to do luxury. Whether you want quiet cliffside serenity, modern beachfront design, or a swimmable-beach escape, there’s truly a resort for every style of traveler. These five properties all offer something special and unique, but they share one thing in common: they’ll more than likely leave you dreaming of the day you get to return!
If you’re planning a Cabo trip soon, and aiming to do it luxuriously, I hope this helps you narrow down your list… or expand it in the best way possible.
