When I think of Los Cabos, I think of palm trees, desert light, heat that melts the week right off you, and hospitality that feels genuinely personal. Over several trips I’ve stayed in both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, and I can honestly say this stretch of the Baja Peninsula holds some of the most beautiful luxury resorts in western North America.
The properties in this guide each made the list for a reason: a distinct sense of place, exceptional service, and that harder-to-name feeling that someone thought carefully about every detail. A few I’ve stayed at; the rest have been on my list for years, recommended by people whose taste I trust. I’ve split them that way below so you always know which is which.

Cabo San Lucas is the livelier town, with the marina, El Arco, and a celebratory energy, while San José del Cabo moves slower, with cobblestone streets, galleries, and a more romantic pace. The Cape, a Thompson Hotel – Cabo San Lucas
The Cape sits right on the rocks above the water, with El Arco framed across the bay from nearly every balcony. Clean lines, blackened steel, and a rooftop made for watching the light go golden. Max and I spent three slow nights here, and it was one of the easiest luxury stays I’ve had in Cabo: we barely left, and didn’t want to.
The food is genuinely worth staying in for. Breakfast at The Ledge, tacos poolside at Point Break, sunset drinks at The Rooftop, and the chef’s menu at Manta, which is a whole experience. Why it belongs on your list: The El Arco view, a pool you won’t want to leave, and dining good enough that you never have to.
Viceroy Los Cabos – San José del Cabo
Viceroy Los Cabos feels like stepping into a modern art installation: reflecting pools everywhere, minimalist white architecture, and geometric lines in every direction. It’s sleek, cinematic, and endlessly photogenic.
Max and I stayed here in July 2024 for my best friend’s destination wedding, and it was a lovely experience from start to finish. Our personal butler checked in daily by text, the rooms were spacious, and the beachfront location is hard to beat. I usually gravitate toward old-world, eclectic design, which is exactly why Viceroy surprised me: it quickly became one of my favorite contemporary resorts in Cabo.
Why it belongs on your list: For striking modern design, butler service, and a beachfront setting that’s made for wedding weekends, girls’ trips, and couples who love a little energy.
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Collection – Cabo San Lucas
If modern Baja luxury were a place, it would be Chileno Bay. Airy suites, beautiful pools, and one of the most swimmable beaches in Cabo right at your doorstep, all with that signature Auberge warmth. We haven’t stayed overnight yet, but we spent an evening here for dinner at Comal, cocktails at the bar first, and a table by the fire pit as the sky went pastel over the bay. It reaffirmed everything I love about Auberge.
If you’re traveling as a couple, it’s one of Cabo’s most romantic spots, and if you’re staying elsewhere, the dinner alone is worth the trip over.

Esperanza, Auberge Collection – Cabo San Lucas
Esperanza is pure romance: an intimate cliffside escape with cascading infinity pools, dramatic ocean views, and Auberge warmth in every detail. It’s the kind of place where you wake up to waves on the rocks below and fall asleep under a sky full of stars.
The architecture blends natural textures with open, coastal design, so everything feels peaceful and deeply restorative. Add the dining, the spa, and private terraces, and it’s easy to see why it tops so many bucket lists, including mine.
Why it belongs on your list: The cliffside setting and timeless romance make it ideal for honeymoons, anniversaries, or simply spoiling yourself.
One&Only Palmilla – San José del Cabo
One&Only Palmilla is legendary, and for good reason. It’s one of the most iconic luxury resorts in Mexico, with lush gardens, winding paths, swimmable beaches, and suites that feel made for slow mornings.
The service is famously attentive (hello, butlers), and the property manages to feel intimate and expansive at once. Between the private plunge pools, the golf, and the restaurants, Palmilla is for travelers who want classic, old-world luxury with every modern comfort.
Why it belongs on your list: Few resorts do timeless luxury like One&Only. If you want to feel taken care of in every possible way, this is your place.
Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal – Cabo San Lucas
If dramatic entrances are your thing, Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is for you: you drive through a private tunnel carved into the mountain to reach it. On the other side, it’s all natural stone, cliffside views, and private plunge pools in nearly every room.
The dining is a big part of the draw (El Farallón is the one everyone talks about), and the ocean views are endless, with whales often passing by in season. It’s peaceful, private, and high on my list.
Why it belongs on your list: Privacy, cliffside beauty, and an entrance you won’t find anywhere else in Cabo.
How to Plan a Cabo Splurge
Go in the low season: July through October brings the softest rates of the year. It’s hot, humid, and hurricane season, so book a flexible rate, but it’s when a dream resort can suddenly feel within reach.
Use your points: The Cape is part of World of Hyatt, and Waldorf Astoria is part of Hilton.
Book one dinner at a resort you’re not staying at: It’s the easiest way to experience a second property. Dinner at Comal at Chileno Bay was one of our favorite meals in Cabo.
Get on the water once: A boat trip out to El Arco is the add-on I’d choose.
Book flights early: Compare flights to Los Cabos (SJD) on Expedia, and pack your resort wear.
