Florence is one of those cities that lingers with you long after you leave. I’ve visited twice now — first in 2019 with my family, and again on our Italian honeymoon in June 2025 — and even though I’m not what I’d consider a “city girl,” Florence is the one place I know I’d love to keep returning to. It’s intimate, walkable, sun-soaked, and inspiring in that quiet, effortless way only Florence can be (if you’ve been, you know).
During our honeymoon, we even wandered into a few of these boutique hotels just to peek at their lobbies and courtyards, dreaming about what it would be like to stay there. It felt like getting a little preview of a future chapter in this city — and now I can’t wait to go back and experience them properly. These boutique hotels in Florence capture that feeling beautifully:
A Quick Note on Florence
Florence rewards slow travelers. It’s a city best experienced without an agenda — wandering across the Ponte Vecchio at golden hour, getting genuinely lost in the Oltrarno, stumbling into a courtyard that makes you stop and catch your breath. The right hotel is a big part of that equation: it should feel like a home base you actually want to return to, not just a place to leave your luggage.
If you’re still building out your itinerary, I’d highly recommend booking a skip-the-line Uffizi Gallery tour or a guided Duomo experience ahead of time — both sell out well in advance, especially in summer. Viator has excellent options for both, as well as Chianti wine tours and Florentine cooking classes if you want to go deeper into the region. I link to a few favorites throughout this guide.
Casa G. Firenze
Casa G. Firenze is polished and modern with an inviting warmth that feels distinctly Florentine. The interiors blend soft, contemporary design with subtle historic touches — think warm tones, curated art, and details that make it feel lived-in rather than styled. The rooms are spacious by city standards, and the lobby is like a chic living room you’ll actually want to sit in. It’s right in the center of Florence, yet a quiet little refuge you can return to again and again.
Why it belongs on your list:
A refined-but-relaxed boutique stay that is both stylish and grounded — perfect for slow mornings, long walks, and soaking in Florence at your own pace.
Hotel Calimala Florence
Hotel Calimala is bold, design-forward, and cool — a boutique hotel with no shortage of personality. The rooms are layered with textures, color, and contemporary art, but the true highlight is the rooftop. With panoramic views over the city and the Duomo peeking above the skyline, it’s like the Florence you daydream about. Sunset cocktails up here would be borderline required.
Why it belongs on your list:
For travelers who want style, energy, and a rooftop scene that delivers some of the best views in Florence.
Hotel La Gemma
Possibly one of my favorites on this list for its color and eclectic charm, Hotel La Gemma is like stepping into a box of gems and jewels, if that makes sense — polished, contemporary, and beautifully decorated. The rooms feature rich fabrics, soft lighting, and marble accents, creating a luxurious space without ever feeling cold. Their spa is a bonus, offering the perfect escape after wandering Florence’s cobblestone streets. The hotel is also home to Michelin-recognized Luca’s Restaurant, by Chef Paulo Airaudo!
This might just be the hotel to prioritize for our next visit to beautiful Firenze…because I need to stay here at some point in my life.
Why it belongs on your list:
A beautifully curated boutique stay with a modern yet eclectic luxe feel and foodie heaven on-site!
Ottantotto Firenze
Nestled in the Oltrarno — Florence’s artsy, charming, quieter side — Ottantotto is like staying in a beautifully restored private home. With only a handful of rooms, each designed with its own personality, it has a warmth and intimate feel that most bigger hotels can’t replicate. The small garden is the sweetest surprise and the perfect place to sip a coffee before heading out for the day!
Why it belongs on your list:
For travelers who love hidden-gem boutique stays that feel intimate, soulful, and romantic.
Stella d’Italia (Our Honeymoon Stay!)
Stella d’Italia became one of my favorite boutique stays ever. It’s artsy, eclectic, and full of whimsical charm — the kind of place where every corner, color, and object feels thoughtfully chosen. There’s a beautiful balance of vintage soul and modern touches, and it felt like the perfect home base for the Florence portion of our honeymoon.
It’s hidden along the famous Via de’ Tornabuoni, a high-end luxury shopping street known as the city’s fashion center, and is walkable to wherever you’re trying to go. Even better? It’s part of a family of three equally dreamy sister properties — Oltrarno Splendid, SoprArno Suites, and AdAstra — each with its own creative identity. If you love one, you’ll love them all.
Why it belongs on your list:
It’s boutique, artsy, character-filled, and one of the most delightfully designed stays in Florence — perfect for couples, design lovers, and anyone who wants a memorable, personality-rich experience.
The Place Firenze
The Place overlooks Piazza Santa Maria Novella, but somehow still feels like a private sanctuary. The interiors are soft, warm, and beautifully refined — the epitome of understated luxury — and the service is famously personal. It’s the kind of place where you feel looked after without ever feeling fussed over. We stopped in for a drink at The Kitchen & Bar, and the hospitality and every detail were lovely, from the linens to the lighting, which is designed to make you slow down and savor the moment.
Why it belongs on your list:
For an elevated, intimate boutique stay with impeccable hospitality and a location that makes it effortless to explore the city.
Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel, Florence
In the hills of Fiesole — just outside the bustle of Florence — Villa San Michele is pure fairytale luxury. Set within a restored monastery, it’s surrounded by terraced gardens, courtyards, and insane panoramic views that are almost otherworldly. Because it’s a Belmond property, everything is elevated to the highest level: impeccable service, candlelit dinners overlooking the city, and an atmosphere so romantic you’ll want to bottle it up and take it home. It’s the definition of a splurge — the kind of stay people dream about for years (myself included — I’d love to stay here).
Why it belongs on your list:
Because Belmond doesn’t do “regular luxury” — it does once-in-a-lifetime, storybook luxury, and this property lets you experience Florence from a peaceful, panoramic spot just outside the city. Perfect for anyone who wants to feel tucked away while still only a short ride from all the magic of Firenze.
Florence is a city I’d pick over and over again — partly for the art and architecture, the food, and the golden light, but mostly for the feeling it gives you that nowhere else quite replicates. Each of these boutique hotels captures a different piece of that magic, from the intimate and eclectic to the polished and ultra-luxurious. After wandering into a few of them during our honeymoon, doing what I now call “hotel window shopping,” I’m already dreaming about which one we’ll book next.
Whether you’re planning a first visit or a return trip, I hope this guide helps you find a stay that feels like your own little corner of Florence. And if Italy is calling more broadly — whether it’s the Amalfi Coast, Puglia, or a destination wedding — you’ll find a lot more to explore right here on the blog.
