The Best Wedding Venues in Tuscany, Italy: 18 Villas, Borgos, and Castles We Considered

When we first decided to celebrate our wedding in Italy, Tuscany was at the forefront of our plans. It’s what comes to mind when you picture the quintessential Italian countryside, right? I won’t lie, it was for us too, mostly out of familiarity from prior trips and venues we’d seen on social media. So before we landed on Puglia for our destination wedding in June 2025, we deeply researched venues in a few regions: Tuscany, Umbria, and the Amalfi Coast.

I’m so glad we chose Puglia. It was the best adventure of our lives, and so us without our even knowing it. But if you’re set on a Tuscan wedding, there’s no shortage of beautiful options (which is why this post is so long). To be clear about where these come from: they’re the venues I researched, reached out to, or followed on Instagram as dream stays long before I had a ring on my finger. Where we have a personal connection, I say so.

The best wedding venues in Tuscany range from intimate countryside borgos like Borgo Petrognano and Villa Montanare to ultra-luxury estates like Borgo Santo Pietro, Castiglion del Bosco, and Hotel Il Pellicano. For a classic villa wedding without a multi-night buyout, look at Villa Grabau near Lucca or the garden villas outside Florence. Most venues host weddings from May through October.

From coastal Tuscany (yes, the region borders the Tyrrhenian Sea) to the deep countryside along Umbria, you can find just about anything for your size and style. Here are, in my opinion, the best of the best.

Borgo Petrognano – Poggibonsi

This property. Wow. Tucked into the hills between Florence and Siena, Borgo Petrognano is a quintessential slice of the Tuscan countryside: warm stone buildings, cypress-lined paths, and views over vineyards and olive groves that transport your guests into the sun-soaked Tuscany everyone imagines.

What makes it especially appealing is its intimate feel. Undeniably elegant, but relaxed and unfussy, with a layout made for multi-day celebrations, where guests wander the grounds, linger by the pool, and settle in. Compared to some of Tuscany’s grander properties, it feels more like a house party among friends.

Best for: Intimate to mid-sized destination weddings, multi-day celebrations, couples drawn to classic Tuscan landscapes with a relaxed feel.

Set in the iconic Val d’Orcia, Borgo Sant’Ambrogio is surrounded by the rolling hills that have come to define Tuscany: golden fields, winding country roads, and slow, still moments that feel almost cinematic. The borgo is elegant yet understated, blending into the landscape rather than overpowering it.

Borgo Santo Pietro – Palazzetto

Borgo Santo Pietro sits at the very top of Tuscany’s luxury wedding venues (and on my personal bucket list of Italian stays), with a level of service that consistently lands it on lists like the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List.

The estate is lush, romantic, and impossibly beautiful: manicured gardens, cypress-lined paths, and historic stone buildings in acres of countryside. I didn’t consider it for long, knowing it was beyond our budget, but if you’re willing and able, I imagine weddings here are highly curated, immersive experiences. It’s a venue for couples who want an intimate, high-touch wedding where every moment feels considered and deeply personal.

Best for: Ultra-luxury destination weddings, intimate guest counts, couples seeking a highly curated, all-encompassing Tuscan estate experience.

Borgo Stomennano feels like a Tuscan dream untouched by the present day. Just outside Monteriggioni, it’s defined by a grand villa, frescoed interiors, formal gardens, and countryside views: elegant, romantic, and old-world in the best way.

Unlike Tuscany’s more polished resort-style venues, Stomennano leans into history and atmosphere, perfect for couples who love classic European elegance and want their celebration to feel timeless. Luxurious, but the understated, refined kind.

Best for: Elegant destination weddings, couples drawn to historic estates and formal gardens, celebrations with a timeless, old-world feel.

In the hills of the Val d’Ambra, Casa Cornacchi blends rustic charm with classic Tuscan elegance: traditional stone buildings and lush gardens framed by olive groves, vineyards, and cypress-lined paths, the Tuscany you see in the movies. It isn’t hyper-luxury like some properties here, and that’s the appeal: a lovely balance between refined and relaxed.

Best for: Medium-sized destination weddings, couples seeking a rustic-elegant Tuscany experience, and celebrations that feel personal and scenic rather than formal or ultra-luxurious.

Castello di Vicarello – Cinigiano

A real Tuscan castle, not castle-inspired: Castello di Vicarello is a medieval castle restored into a boutique property overlooking vineyards, olive groves, and the Maremma countryside. Stone walls, lush gardens, and terraces made for ceremonies, dinners under the stars, and unforgettable photos.

There’s a storybook quality here: candlelit dinners in historic courtyards, aperitivo on the terraces at sunset, and views stretching for miles. It’s perfect for intimate celebrations hosted entirely on-site, though the gardens can hold larger receptions too.

Best for: Castle weddings with historic charm, couples after a memorable Tuscan experience.

Castelfalfi – Montaione

Castelfalfi isn’t just a venue; it’s an entire Tuscan village turned luxury resort, mixing historic charm with five-star amenities. With multiple ceremony spaces, restaurants, and accommodations across the property, a wedding here can be exactly what you envision. It’s luxury in a more contemporary, resort-style way than Tuscany’s small historic properties, and it landed on Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2025.

Best for: Larger destination weddings, couples wanting a luxury resort experience, multi-day celebrations with extensive on-site amenities and guest accommodations.

I knew it was well beyond our budget, so I never looked into wedding pricing, but for a luxury-driven budget, it would be unforgettable. This is la dolce vita bottled up: terraced gardens over the water, sun-bleached stone, salt air, and the relaxed luxury Pellicano is famous for.

Best for: Ultra-luxury destination weddings, fashion-forward couples, intimate celebrations with an iconic coastal setting.

Odds are, you’ve stumbled across a La Foce wedding while scrolling Instagram, TikTok, or Pinterest. It’s one of Tuscany’s most romantic and historically significant garden estates, set in the Val d’Orcia and best known for its Renaissance-style gardens and sweeping valley views. Timeless, refined, and pure atmosphere.

Best for: Garden weddings, couples who want an iconic Val d’Orcia setting, guests staying in nearby towns.

Lupaia – Torrita di Siena

Tucked into the hills outside Montepulciano with views over the Val d’Orcia, Lupaia feels more like a private countryside hideaway than a wedding venue: intimate, serene, and undeniably luxurious, for couples who want their celebration to feel exclusive and deeply personal.

Lupaia was too small for the on-site stay we wanted, but it’s exceptional for smaller weddings. Max’s family stayed here on his graduation trip in 2019 and loved it, which says a lot about the warmth and service.

Best for: Intimate luxury weddings, small guest counts, couples wanting an ultra-refined countryside escape.

Villa Cetinale – Sovicille

Villa Cetinale is one of Tuscany’s most breathtaking wedding settings: a historic Baroque villa within formal Italian gardens, cypress-lined paths, and manicured terraces that feel like a dream. Grand architecture and unreal landscape design make every angle worth photographing.

This is a venue that asks for commitment. It typically requires a multi-night buyout, often close to a week, which makes it perfect for couples who want a true wedding retreat and guests who can stay the whole stretch. It’s also where Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi married in May 2024.

Best for: Week-long wedding retreats, couples who want an iconic, photographed-everywhere setting.

Best for: Garden-focused weddings, couples seeking a historic and elegant setting near Florence, and celebrations centered on scenery and design.

Just outside Lucca’s city walls, Villa Grabau balances old-world grandeur with accessibility. Because it’s so close to town, it works beautifully when guests stay in Lucca or nearby villas instead of committing to a full buyout. No surprise it’s a favorite for classic Italian villa weddings that feel timeless rather than trendy. A friend of mine married here in September 2025, which only confirmed how special it is.

Best for: Elegant villa weddings, couples who love classic architecture and gardens, celebrations centered around a beautiful setting without a multi-day stay requirement for large numbers of guests.

Villa Medicea di Lilliano – Grassina

In the hills just south of Florence, Villa Medicea di Lilliano is a historic estate of manicured gardens, vineyards, and panoramic views, beautiful in a not-overdone way. It was one of my favorite Tuscany contenders from a setting perspective; the gardens feel very “Tuscany,” balanced between elegance and ease. In the end, timing and our pull toward Puglia decided things for us, a reminder that a venue can be incredible and still not be the right fit for your specific plans.

Villa Montanare – Cortona

Villa Montanare is one of those venues that feels effortlessly beautiful: a historic stone villa in the hills near Cortona, surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees, and countryside views. Elegant without being flashy, romantic without trying too hard.

I loved everything about it; it was simply too small for the celebration we envisioned. For an intimate destination wedding, it’s truly special, the kind of place that needs very little added. (If anyone chooses it for a mini wedding and wants to invite me, I’d happily come see it in person!)
