If you’re seeking a luxurious yet authentic escape in Puglia, Italy, consider staying at a masseria—a traditional farmhouse estate transformed into boutique accommodations.
We wish we could have masseria-hopped for weeks on end to experience as many of the beautiful properties in the region as possible. There are quite a few more masserie on our list for either a delicious farm-to-table meal or a full multi-day stay in the future, so with that in mind, this post is composed of ten beautiful masserie that offer a blend of history, comfort, and regional charm.
During our 11 nights in Puglia, we stayed at Masseria Le Torri, Masseria Grieco, and Masseria Santo Scalone. Each one offered its own distinct charm, a picture of what makes the region so special. From the quiet elegance and curated details of Le Torri to the rustic countryside romance of Grieco to the modern yet ancient feel of Santo Scalone—these stays became some of the most memorable parts of our trip.
Let’s look at where we stayed and a few masserie stays still on our Puglia bucket list!
1. Masseria Le Torri – Polignano a Mare
Located just a short drive from the coastal town of Polignano a Mare, Masseria Le Torri is a meticulously restored property set among olive groves and farmland. This beautiful boutique hotel is incredibly intimate, with only 10 rooms. Each room has stunning vaulted ceilings, whitewashed walls, and antique furnishings that reflect its heritage. You can relax by the outdoor pool, participate in cooking classes, or explore nearby attractions like Alberobello and Monopoli. Le Torri also offers yoga sessions, can help arrange local wine tastings, leads artisan workshops, and truly leans into the Apulian experience.

We spent three nights at Masseria Le Torri with our immediate families just before heading to Masseria Grieco for our wedding. We cannot say enough good things about the owners, Mimmo and Silvana. They are the most genuine people, as are their staff, and hospitality is in their bones. The property has been in Mimmo’s family since the 1800s, and they restored the farmhouse into the boutique retreat it is today. I still WhatsApp message Silvana every once in a while, as they are the best of the best of the best! I cannot wait to come back and visit these wonderful people and beautiful property again someday!
2. Masseria Grieco – Ostuni
Masseria Grieco, our wedding venue, is a restored 16th-century farmhouse nestled in the countryside of the Itria Valley, just a few kilometers from Ostuni. Surrounded by dry‑stone walls, ancient olive groves, and eight traditional trulli structures framing a large, sunlit courtyard, it offers a classic Apulian experience. The central square, with its rustic church, old well, and sweeping views of the valley, serves as a breathtaking setting!

Guest accommodation includes 25 rooms housed in stone arches and vaulted ceilings. The grounds at Masseria Grieco feel like something out of a storybook—expansive and serene, dotted with ancient olive trees, winding stone paths, and stunning yet simple flowers that catch the golden light just right. The pool at the back of the property is expansive, with plenty of loungers for afternoon relaxation. Just steps away, the poolside bar serves up spritzes, espresso, and light bites throughout the day—perfect for a pre-dip pick-me-up or post-swim aperitivo.
Masseria Grieco is a place where the beauty of Puglia speaks for itself.
3. Masseria Santo Scalone – Ostuni
We kicked off our honeymoon with a three-night stay at Masseria Santo Scalone, and it couldn’t have been a more peaceful, grounding way to start our 13-day Italian honeymoon adventure. After the joyful chaos of our wedding at Masseria Grieco, we arrived at Santo Scalone feeling exhausted but beyond happy. The calm, sun-drenched atmosphere of the masseria felt so warm and inviting. It’s not a very big property, either, so it was very relaxing.

We spent our days lounging by the pool, sipping Aperol Spritzes under the olive trees, and easing into married life with long, slow breakfasts, a delicious 4-course dinner with the chef, and poolside naps under orange umbrellas. It was everything we needed and more, and it set the perfect tone for the rest of our Italian honeymoon.
We’re itching to check more masserie off our Puglia bucket list. Here are a few that we considered, but didn’t get to stay at due to lack of availability for our dates, budget, or just not enough days under the Apulian sun:
- Masseria Calderisi – Savelletri
- Masseria Moroseta – Ostuni
- Masseria Valentina – Ostuni
- Masseria Don Luigi – Fasano
- Masseria Borgo Ritella – Fasano
- Masseria Bambarone – Fasano
- Masseria Montelauro – Otranto
If you’re planning a visit to Puglia, rotating between a few different masserie, as we did, is the perfect way to experience the region’s diversity while enjoying the comforts of boutique accommodations filled with history and tradition. I couldn’t recommend this way of seeing Puglia more highly!
