The 3 Masseria Hotels We Stayed at for Our Wedding Trip to Puglia
Last Updated on March 24, 2026 by Lauren Belzer Sanford
If you’ve spent any time researching where to stay in Puglia, you’ve probably come across the word masseria. A masseria is a traditional Apulian farmhouse estate — the kind that’s been quietly rooted in the landscape for centuries, surrounded by ancient olive groves and dry-stone walls, and slowly transformed into some of the most soulful boutique stays in all of southern Italy. They’re not luxury in the conventional sense (at least, not all of them). They’re something richer: a place that feels genuinely, deeply rooted.
When Max and I were planning our destination wedding in Puglia, the decision to masseria-hop for the entirety of our stay felt like the only natural way to do it. Over eleven nights in the region, we stayed at three different properties — each one chosen for a different chapter of our trip. The first was for our pre-wedding days with family. The second, our wedding venue. And the third was the exhale of our first three honeymoon nights before we headed across the way to the Amalfi Coast. Together, they told the story of the most meaningful week of our lives.
Below are the three masserie that shaped our Puglia wedding trip — plus a few more still on our bucket list for a future return. If you’re planning your own trip and want the full picture of where to stay across the region, my complete Puglia hotel guide covers everything from intimate farmhouse stays to the most iconic luxury hotels in the region.
Masseria Le Torri – Polignano a Mare
Located a short drive from the coastal town of Polignano a Mare, Masseria Le Torri is a meticulously restored property set among olive groves and open farmland. Intimate almost to the point of feeling private — just ten (eleven?) rooms — it wraps you in tall ceilings, whitewashed walls, and antique furnishings that speak beautifully of its long history. There’s a pool for slow afternoon hours, cooking classes, yoga sessions, artisan workshops, and guided wine tastings with neighboring wineries that lean fully into the Apulian experience.
We spent three nights here with our immediate families just before heading to Masseria Grieco for our wedding — and I genuinely couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful way to kick off that week. Owners Mimmo and Silvana are the kind of people who make hospitality feel like a personal gift. The property has been in Mimmo’s family since the 1800s, and the care they’ve put into restoring it is evident in every corner. I still WhatsApp Silvana now and then. That says everything about the kind of people they are and the impact that their beautiful masseria has.
If you’re planning a wedding in Puglia or simply want a pre-trip base near the coast with easy access to Alberobello, Monopoli, and the trulli in the countryside, Le Torri is the kind of place that ruins all other stays in the best possible way.

Masseria Grieco – Ostuni
Masseria Grieco is a restored 16th-century farmhouse nestled in the Valle d’Itria, a few kilometers from Ostuni — the hilltop white city that holds a very specific piece of my heart. Surrounded by ancient dry-stone walls, traditional trulli structures, and the kind of stunning valley views that make you forget there’s a world outside of this little piece of heaven, it’s a place that earns every bit of its reputation as one of the most romantic settings in Puglia.
We got married here. So I may be slightly biased — but I’ve also stood in that central courtyard with its rustic stone church, ancient well, and afternoon light pouring in at exactly the right angle, and I can tell you with complete confidence that there is nowhere else I would have chosen for that special day.
The property’s 25 rooms are housed beneath stone arches with beautiful blooming buds. The grounds feel storybook-like — winding stone paths, ancient olive trees, and simple wildflowers that catch the golden light in a way that photographs will never quite capture. The expansive pool at the back of the property is perfect for long afternoon hours, with a poolside bar serving spritzes and espresso throughout the day. Masseria Grieco is a place where the beauty of Puglia speaks for itself.
For anyone considering it as a wedding venue in Puglia, I have an entire corner of this site dedicated to our experience — from the full wedding day to everything I learned planning a destination wedding in Italy. And if you’re planning what to do in the surrounding area while you’re based here, my Ostuni travel guide and restaurant roundup are the best places to start.

Masseria Santo Scalone – Ostuni
We kicked off our Italian honeymoon with three nights at Masseria Santo Scalone, and it could not have been a more perfect, grounding way to begin. After the joyful chaos of our wedding at Grieco, we arrived at Santo Scalone exhausted, happy, and in desperate need of stillness — and the property gave us exactly that. Small and unhurried, with a calm, sun-drenched atmosphere that felt warm the moment we stepped through the gate.
We spent our days poolside under orange umbrellas, sipping Aperol Spritzes in the shade of ancient olive trees, and easing into married life over long, slow breakfasts and a four-course dinner with the chef that felt less like a meal and more like an event. There was no agenda. There was no need for one.
Santo Scalone is not a grand resort property — and that’s entirely the point. It’s intimate, it’s quiet, and it sets the tone for the rest of our honeymoon in the best possible way. If you’re planning a honeymoon in Puglia, or simply want a peaceful few nights in the Ostuni countryside before or after the busier parts of your trip, this is the stay I’d point you toward without hesitation.

We’re itching to check more masserie off our Puglia list. These are the ones we considered — and couldn’t get to, whether for availability, timing, or simply not having enough days under the Apulian sun:
- Masseria Calderisi (Savelletri): A refined property near the coast with a gorgeous pool and easy access to the beaches around Fasano. High on our list for a future summer return. Book on Booking.com.
- Masseria Moroseta (Ostuni): Possibly the most photographed masseria in Puglia, and deservedly so. Architect-designed with a Mediterranean garden and a table that sources almost entirely from the land.
- Masseria Valentina (Ostuni): A beautifully restored property with an intimate feel and warm, personal hospitality. We had dinner here on one of the nights of our honeymoon! Book on Booking.com.
- Masseria Don Luigi (Fasano): A stunning 17th-century farmhouse with only eight rooms and an exceptional restaurant. Book on Booking.com.
- Masseria Borgo Ritella (Fasano): A charming cluster of restored stone buildings with trulli structures and a lovely pool. Book on Booking.com.
- Masseria Bambarone (Fasano): A smaller, more low-key property with a beautiful garden and a genuinely intimate atmosphere. Book on Booking.com.
- Masseria Montelauro — Otranto A gorgeous property deep in the Salento, perfect for anyone wanting to explore the southern tip of Puglia. Book on Booking.com.
If you’re planning a visit to Puglia, moving between two or three different masserie — as we did — is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the region. Each property has its own character, its own rhythm, and its own version of what makes southern Italy feel so irreplaceable. I couldn’t recommend this way of traveling in Puglia more.
If an Airbnb or vacation rental is more your speed, I’ve also rounded up the best stays in Ostuni and Polignano a Mare.
